촛대라는 큰 주제 안에서 다시 네 다섯 가지의 작은 형태적 시리즈 물로
세분화 되는데, 이 외형적 분류 안에서 디테일한 마감의 차이를 보여주고자 합니다. 예를 들면 비슷한 형태 안의 시리즈에서 은입사나 조이질, 샌드 블라스팅, 줄질작업 등 다양한 방식의 표면처리를 활용하는 것입니다.

김석영 작가는 독일 뉘른베르크 예술대학 금은공예과를 졸업 후 현지에서 작업실을 운영하다, 2015년 귀국하여 금속공예작업을 이어오고 있습니다. 공간과 조화를 이루면서도 생활에 작은 변화를 줄 수 있는 아이템을 고민하며, 전통적 금속공예기법과 현대적 제작기법을 적절히 활용하여 공예가가 만들어낼 수 있는 물건의 차별성을 보여주고자 노력하고 있습니다.

작가는 촛대라는 작은 주제를 가지고 혼자서 어디까지 이야기 할 수 있을까 전시를 준비하는 내내 고민이었습니다. 남들은 크게 신경 쓰지 않을 수도 있지만 유의미한 차이들을 만들어내기 위해 성실하고 반복적으로 노력하는 삶의 결과물로서의 작업물을 선보였을 때, 결국은 사용자들이 그것을 알아낼 것이라 생각했습니다. 그리고 그 의미들이 서로에게 기쁨이 될 수 있기를 희망합니다.
